Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database: Standards & Measurements
Monitoring the performance of the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program (Program) against specific standards is key to helping more patients have a successful bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant. A transplant replaces a patient's diseased cells with healthy blood-forming cells (also called stem cells).
The Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database, one component of the Program, is responsible for:
- Collecting and maintaining data about marrow and cord blood transplants using an electronic information system. (Stem cells are the blood-forming cells used for transplant.)
- Storing and managing a repository of blood samples from donors and patients for research.
- Providing information for research to improve patient outcomes.
Performance standards for the Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database include:
- Collecting data that are accurate, complete, and timely from allogeneic transplants using U.S. marrow donors and cord blood units. (Allogeneic transplants use cells from related or unrelated donors or cord blood units.)These transplants may be performed at U.S. or international transplant centers.
- Analyzing outcomes from allogeneic transplants using U.S. marrow donors and cord blood units.
The Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database regularly reports performance measurements to HRSA.
