Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database: Standards and Measurements

Monitoring the performance of the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program (Program) against specific standards is key to helping more patients have a successful bone marrow or cord blood transplant (also called a BMT).

The Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database, one component of the Program, is responsible for:

  • Collecting and maintaining data about marrow and cord blood transplants using an electronic information system
  • Storing and managing a repository of blood samples from donors and patients for research
  • Providing information for research to help improve patient outcomes

The blood-forming cells (stem cells) for transplant can be autologous (from the patient) or allogeneic (from a relative of the patient or an unrelated donor).

Performance standards for the Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database include:

  • Collecting data that are accurate, complete and timely from allogeneic transplants using U.S. marrow donors and cord blood units. These transplants may be performed at U.S. or international transplant centers.
  • Analyzing outcomes from allogeneic transplants using U.S. marrow donors and cord blood units.

The Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database regularly reports performance measurements to HRSA.
