Performance Standards and Measurements

Standards were defined to meet the requirements of the Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Act of 2005 (Stem Cell Act 2005), Public Law 109-129. The overall goals of the Stem Cell Act 2005 are to:

  • Help more patients in need receive a bone marrow or cord blood transplant (also called a BMT) from an unrelated donor or cord blood unit
  • Improve health outcomes of patients receiving a transplant

The standards and measurements are monitored and reported separately for each component of the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program:

By measuring the results against these standards, it can be determined when requirements of the Stem Cell Act 2005 are met and when improvements are needed.
